Metro Atlanta gets two severe-weather seasons — spring and fall — plus tropical systems that stall over North Georgia for days and the occasional ice storm that brings down limbs by the thousand. The damage you can see from the driveway is rarely all of it: a lifted shingle becomes a leak, a leak becomes wet insulation, wet insulation becomes mold. Every hour an opening stays uncovered, more of the house gets wet. Call or text (404) 983-0966 as soon as it’s safe to go outside.
What Storms Do to Metro Atlanta Homes and Buildings
Most storm losses are a chain: the wind or hail does the first damage and the rain does the rest. Our job is to stop the chain as early in it as possible.
- Roof damage — missing or lifted shingles, torn flashing, damaged ridge vents and pipe boots
- Hail impact — bruised shingles, dented gutters and vents, cracked skylights, pitted siding
- Fallen trees and limbs through roofs, decks, fences and vehicles
- Wind-driven rain forced in around windows, doors, soffits and attic vents
- Interior water damage — ceilings, insulation, drywall and floors under a breach
- Runoff flooding in basements and crawl spaces when the ground can’t take any more
- Lightning — electrical damage, attic fires and blown wiring
- Power loss — sump pumps stop, basements fill, refrigerators and HVAC go down
What to Do After the Storm
Safety first. Stay away from downed power lines and anything touching them. Don’t climb onto a damaged roof or walk under a damaged tree. Don’t enter a room with a sagging ceiling or a wall that has shifted. If you smell gas, leave and call the gas company from outside.
- Photograph damage from the ground — roof, siding, trees, interior ceilings and walls
- Move valuables and electronics away from active leaks; put buckets under drips
- Leave the tarping to us — roofs are dangerous wet, and we’re open 24 hours
- Call your insurance company to open the claim, and keep receipts for anything you spend
- Be careful who you let on the roof — after a big storm, out-of-town contractors knock doors; don’t sign anything on the doorstep
- Call (404) 983-0966 — we’ll tell you what to do right now and get a crew moving
Our Storm Damage Restoration Process
-
Emergency response
Tarp the roof, board up openings, coordinate tree removal from the structure, and make unsafe areas safe — so the weather stops getting in.
-
Assess & document
Roof, exterior and interior inspection with photos and moisture mapping, written up the way your adjuster needs it.
-
Extract & dry
Water that came in is extracted and the structure is dried to dry standard, monitored daily, before any repairs close it up.
-
Repairs
Roofing, flashing, siding, gutters, windows and decks on the outside; ceilings, insulation, drywall and floors on the inside.
-
Reconstruction & walkthrough
Full rebuilds where a tree or tornado took more than a repair can fix, then a final walkthrough with you and the documentation to close the claim.
One Storm, Several Kinds of Damage, One Team
A single storm can put water in the basement, a tree through the roof and a lightning fire in the attic. These are the services a storm call usually turns into.
- Water Water Damage Repair Ceilings, walls and floors repaired after wind-driven rain and roof leaks. Water damage repair
- Water Basement Flooding Runoff and power-loss floods pumped out, dried and rebuilt. Basement flood cleanup
- Water Drying & Dehumidification Verified structural drying after water intrusion, so mold doesn’t follow the storm. Structural drying
- Fire Fire & Smoke Damage Lightning-strike fires and the smoke damage that comes with them. Fire & smoke restoration
- Rebuild Reconstruction Roof decking, framing, siding and interiors rebuilt by the same team that tarped the house. Repairs & reconstruction
- Prepare Emergency Planning A storm-season checklist and a written plan for your property, before the next watch is issued. Emergency response planning
Storm Claims, Roof Damage and the Contractors Who Show Up After
Wind and hail damage is generally covered by homeowners and commercial property policies; water that rises up from outside — a creek, a street, saturated ground — generally is not, unless you carry flood insurance. Most policies also expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, which is why emergency tarping and board-up are usually reimbursable: photograph the damage first, then protect it, and keep the receipts.
After every major storm, Metro Atlanta fills with out-of-town contractors knocking doors and offering free roof inspections. Some are fine; many will be gone before your warranty is a year old. Ask for a local address, don’t sign anything on the doorstep, and don’t let anyone onto your roof who isn’t accountable to you afterward. Verus is based in Norcross — we’re here for the next storm too.
Why Metro Atlanta Property Owners Call Verus After a Storm
-
Local, and still here next year
A Norcross company with a service area it drives every day, not a crew that follows the weather map and leaves.
-
Emergency through rebuild
The same team that tarps the roof dries the attic, replaces the decking and paints the ceiling. No handoff, no gap.
-
Documented for the claim
Photos, moisture logs and a written scope in the format adjusters expect, from the first visit.
-
Open 24 hours
Storms hit at night and on weekends. Call or text any time and we’ll get something over the opening.

Storm Damage FAQs
Does homeowners insurance cover storm damage?
Wind, hail, lightning and fallen-tree damage are covered by nearly all standard policies, including the interior water damage that results from a storm-created opening. Flooding from rising water is a separate matter and generally requires flood insurance. Your deductible applies, and some policies carry a separate wind/hail deductible — check yours. We document the loss so the claim is clear from the start.
Should I tarp my roof myself?
We’d rather you didn’t. Wet roofs are slick, damaged decking can give way, and a poorly fastened tarp can do more harm in the next gust. We tarp and board up 24 hours a day; call us and photograph the damage from the ground while you wait.
How do I know if hail damaged my roof?
From the ground, look for dented gutters, downspouts and vents, pitted siding and spatter marks on the AC unit — if hail hit those, it hit the roof. The roof itself needs a close inspection for bruised and cracked shingles; that’s part of our assessment, and it’s documented with photos for your adjuster.
A tree fell on my house. What do I do?
Get everyone out of the rooms under it, stay out until it’s been evaluated, and call us. We coordinate safe removal of the tree from the structure, tarp and board up the damage, and handle the water intrusion and the rebuild. Don’t cut the tree yourself — a tree resting on a roof can shift as it’s cut.
How fast can you respond after a major storm?
We’re open 24 hours and dispatch as soon as roads are passable. During a region-wide event, every restoration company in Metro Atlanta is stretched; we prioritize open roofs and active water intrusion first, and we’ll be honest with you about timing rather than promise an hour we can’t keep. Homes and businesses with a Verus Ready Plan on file are already in our system when the calls start.
Are the roofers knocking on doors after a storm legitimate?
Some are. Many aren’t accountable once they leave town. Ask for a local physical address and references from last year’s storms, get everything in writing, and don’t sign a contract or an insurance authorization on the doorstep. A legitimate contractor will give you time to think.
Storms don’t make appointments. Neither do we. Call or text and we’ll get the opening covered tonight.
